Tripura signs MoUs with IIT Delhi, Tata IIS for advanced tech skill training
Agartala: The Tripura government has signed two MoUs with IIT Delhi and Tata IIS to enhance skill development among youth in line with emerging industry demands, an official said on Sunday.
The agreements aim to train a total of 1,000 candidates in advanced job roles, improving local employment opportunities and reducing outmigration.
"The first MoU, signed with IIT Delhi, will train 500 candidates in five futuristic job roles: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things, Blockchain, and 5G technologies. These programmes will be implemented in collaboration with NIELIT Agartala, Tripura Institute of Technology, and other government institutions in the state," said Pradeep K, Director of Skill Development, to PTI.
He added that funding will be provided jointly by PMKVY 4.0 and the state-supported MMDUP scheme.
Ashutosh Dutt Sharma, CEO of IHFC, IIT Delhi's Technology Innovation Hub, attended the MoU signing and expressed interest in setting up a regional centre in Tripura in the future.
He said the centre would support startups in new-age technology areas, empower local innovators, and create IT-linked employment opportunities within the state.
"Under the second MoU, Tata IIS will train another 500 candidates in high-demand technical sectors such as industrial automation, safety engineering, industrial robotic system integration, electric vehicle maintenance technician, CNC programming, and 3D printing operations," Pradeep K added, noting that the training will be conducted in collaboration with the state’s Industrial Training Institutes.
The Skill Development Director emphasised that all programmes will be strictly placement-linked. Mayank Palan, CFO of Tata IIS, said the trainees would be connected to Tata’s vehicle manufacturing units and its network of industrial clients across India.
The initiative is expected to significantly improve employability and create new livelihood opportunities for Tripura’s youth in advanced manufacturing and automotive technologies.
Pradeep K highlighted that digital skills will be key in helping youth secure jobs within the state.
He said promoting IT, ITeS, and startup-focused training is part of the department’s effort to reduce the need for youth to migrate to other states in search of employment.
