Udaipur: A school teacher in Tripura's Gomati district has died after being assaulted by a mob following allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor student.

The incident occurred in Udaipur town of Tripura and has sparked widespread concern.

According to police reports, the teacher, in his 40s, was accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl during a private tuition session.

Upon hearing the allegations, local residents gathered and violently attacked the teacher on Thursday.

The situation escalated quickly, leading to the teacher being severely beaten.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (Law & Order), Ananta Das, provided details of the incident, explaining that after the assault, the mob took the teacher to RK Pur police station on the night of August 8.

His wife was present during the incident. A molestation complaint was lodged against him, and on the advice of a doctor, the accused spent the night at a nearby health center.

The teacher was arrested the following day but was later granted bail by a local court.

However, upon returning home, his health deteriorated, and he was admitted to GBP Hospital in Agartala.

He passed away on Saturday while receiving treatment.

Tripura police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation into both the assault on the teacher and the allegations against him.

Despite this, no arrests have been made in connection with the mob attack.

Local MLA and Tripura finance minister Pranajit Singha Roy condemned the violent response, saying that while accusations must be addressed, taking the law into one's own hands is unacceptable.

"There may be allegations against anybody but taking the law into one's hands is a crime. Chief Minister Manik Saha was informed about the brutal murder of the teacher. The police will take legal action against those involved in the crime," Roy stated.
