Guwahati: Gauhati University on Friday refuted allegations that the examination form fill-up was opened just a day before exams, calling the claims baseless.

The University clarified that the form-filling window was deliberately kept open to ensure no student was placed at a disadvantage.

The University stated that the decision was student-centric, aimed at accommodating those who, due to genuine constraints, could not complete the process within the stipulated timeline.

Gauhati University conducts over 250 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across regular and arrear batches.

Scheduling examinations for all programmes within a month is a complex task, the University noted, adding that the examination calendar was compressed from 45 days to 30 days to balance students’ interests with operational needs.

The University also emphasised that examinations are part of the broader teaching-learning-evaluation process and not the sole objective under NEP-2020.

The new framework focuses on holistic learning, flexible course options, and academic depth through a broader range of credit-based courses.

Students are encouraged to audit classes and make informed selections during registration.

With the implementation of NEP-2020, the number of examinable courses has nearly doubled due to the inclusion of AEC, VAC, MDC, and SEC modules.

This increase has required a more compressed but efficient examination schedule.

Utpal Sarma, Registrar of Gauhati University, said, “We strongly deny the allegation and reiterate that Gauhati University functioned in the most transparent and student-friendly manner. The examination window was kept open not due to any lapse, but as an intentional step to ensure no student is left behind. Under the NEP framework, our objective is to reinforce holistic learning with adequate teaching hours and a structured evaluation process. We request all affiliated colleges to complete registration and examination approvals within the notified timelines so that results can be declared on schedule in the interest of our students.”

The University has urged all affiliated colleges to complete the admission, registration, and examination approval processes within the prescribed deadlines to ensure the timely conduct of examinations and declaration of results.
