Assam veterans clinch gold at Ceylon Masters Badminton Championship
Guwahati: Assam's veteran badminton duo Bijoy Kumar Barman and Arup Buragohain, representing India, on Sunday (July 28) emerged victorious in the 'Ceylon Masters International Badminton Championships 2024' held in Sri Lanka’s Colombo.
The duo defeated the local Sri Lankan shuttlers Lalith Nihal Amarasena and Darshana Senarathna in the Men's 55 age group double category by 19-21, 21-15 and 21-17 sets.
The pair of Barman and Buragohain rose to the occasion in the last two sets after losing the first set displaying power-packed smashes to win the coveted title.

Both Barman and Buragohain are members of the Assam Seniors Badminton Club. The tournament was held between July 25 and 28.
The duo had previously represented India in the ‘2023 Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Championships held in South Korea.

The flagship event, having a prize pool of USD 10,000, saw thrilling contests between top master shuttlers from across the globe. The championship is held according to the BWF regulations.
The tournament offered competitions for diverse age categories - 35 to 75, and combined age categories for 100 plus, 110 plus, 120 plus, 130 plus and 140 plus across men’s and women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles events.
