Assam: Author and columnist Deepika Borgohain passes away in Duliajan

North Lakhimpur: Well-known author and columnist and retired Professor of Philosophy of North Lakhimpur College (now university), Deepika Borgohain passed away in her son’s place of work at Duliajan on Saturday after a brief illness. She was 92.

Born in Jorhat in 1932, Borgohain earned her BA from JB College in 1951 and MA from Gauhati University in 1954.

She got married to Jogananda Borgohain, Principal of North Lakhimpur College in 1958.

Borgohain later joined North Lakhimpur College as a lecturer in the Department of Philosophy in 1962 and retired as its HoD in 1992.

A woman of high principle and paramount standards, Borgohain was responsible for creating a discourse on social issues and concerns based on liberal and egalitarian values.

She authored several thought-provoking books on Indian philosophy and secularism.

Borgohain has been a regular columnist in leading dailies and periodicals of the state and was an ardent reader.

She was also the advisor to the Lakhimpur district unit of Sadau Asom Lekhika Samaroh.

Her mortal remains were brought to her residence later on Saturday evening and cremated at North Lakhimpur Crematorium.

Borgohain’s death has been widely mourned across the state.
