Tezpur: Students of Tezpur University on Monday began a nine-hour hunger strike from 9 am, intensifying their protest against Vice-Chancellor Prof Shambhu Nath Singh and demanding his immediate removal over alleged corruption and financial irregularities.

The students announced a complete boycott of academic and administrative activities until the Union Ministry of Education (MoE) issues a formal resolution addressing their demands.

Student representatives said the absence of official communication has pushed the university into prolonged uncertainty, severely affecting academic functioning.

They asserted that academic normalcy cannot return without transparent and decisive intervention from the Ministry to safeguard the institution’s integrity.

Reiterating their primary demand, the students said they will continue the boycott until Prof Singh is removed from office.

The ongoing agitation has disrupted teaching, examinations, and administrative operations across the campus. The students have urged the Ministry of Education to take immediate action to end the impasse and prevent further damage to the academic environment.
