Meghalaya: One nabbed with heroin worth Rs 5.5 crore in East Jaintia Hills

Guwahati: A massive consignment of suspected heroin was seized in East Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya on Tuesday.

As per reports, the police based on specific inputs intercepted a passenger vehicle near Lunshnong.

On checking the car, the police found one suspicious person.

The police immediately checked his belongings and found 58 soap boxes containing suspected heroin.

The person was arrested on the spot.

He was identified as Lalbiakdik Vaiphei (39), a resident of Madanriting, East Khasi Hills Shillong.

He was travelling in a Tata Sumo from Silchar, Assam.

The police said that the heroin weighing almost 610 grams is worth over Rs 5.5 crore in the international grey market.

An investigation has been initiated in connection with the seizure and the accused has been booked under the NDPS Act.
