Meghalaya: MPSC succumbs to KSU pressure, to publish MCS prelims exam marks

Shillong: The Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) has succumbed to the pressure applied by the Khasi Students' Union (KSU) and has agreed to publish the marks of all candidates who appeared in the Meghalaya Civil Service (MCS) Preliminary Examination within 24 hours.

The KSU has been demanding increased transparency into the MCS exams conducted by the MPSC.

The KSU had staged a protest on Thursday calling for more openness in the recruitment process.

This assurance was provided by the MPSC Chairman during a meeting with KSU leaders on Thursday evening.

The minutes of the meeting, signed by both parties, confirmed that the MPSC will release the marks for all candidates who took the MCS (Prelims) Examination.

Additionally, the commission agreed to publish the answer keys, including both incorrect and corrected versions, as well as details of three disputed questions and their correct answers, within the same 24-hour timeframe.

The KSU has also raised concerns regarding the personal interview process for the Meghalaya Police Service.

They demanded adherence to the original recruitment advertisement from 2019, which stipulated a candidate-to-vacancy ratio of 1:2.5 for the interviews, rather than the new Office Memorandum that alters the ratio to 1:1.5.

The MPSC Chairman requested more time to discuss this matter with other commission members.

The MPSC has agreed to postpone the personal interviews for the Meghalaya Police Service, initially scheduled for August 20 and 21, 2024, until further notice.

The meeting minutes also stated that candidate roll numbers should remain consistent from the preliminary examination through to the personal interview for the Meghalaya Civil Service examination.
