Meghalaya: Assam businessman found dead in Shillong hotel room

SHILLONG: Body of a businessman from Guwahati in Assam was recovered from a hotel room at Police Bazaar area in Shillong city of Meghalaya on Thursday (March 07).

Sijo Jacob (47) from Beltola area in Guwahati city of Assam was found by a team from Sadar police station at the hotel in Shillong, Meghalaya.

Hotel staff raised the alarm after observing that a guest had not left their room for an extended period.

In response, the police, accompanied by witnesses, entered the room and discovered Sijo's body on the bed.

Preliminary investigations indicate a possible cause of death due to an overdose of sedatives and anti-depressants.

However, no evidence of foul play has been uncovered.

Hailing originally from Kerala, he has resided in Guwahati for over 15 years. He formerly served as the promoter of Business Northeast, a now-defunct business magazine, and the news websites Fit Northeast and East Echo.

With a Master's degree in Computer Application, he also gained valuable experience working as a web developer.

Meanwhile, the body has been sent for post mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.

The results of the post-mortem will play a crucial role in shedding light on the events.

Sources have reported the presence of blood stains in the mouth of the deceased individual, prompting inquiries into the circumstances surrounding his unexpected death.

Police are currently conducting an investigation, and at present, the specifics regarding the cause of death remain undisclosed.
