Meghalaya: Cabinet clears way for USTM's medical college

Guwahati: The Meghalaya state cabinet on Thursday approved the Meghalaya Private Medical Institution Ordinance and Meghalaya Medical College Regulation and Admission into MBBS course.

This move clears the way for the PA Sangma Medical College at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) to begin operations.

The ordinance, once signed by Governor C H Vijayashankar, will establish a regulatory committee responsible for fixing fees, implementing reservation policies and allotting seats in private medical colleges including the PA Sangma Medical College.

These decisions will align with government norms and court rulings, said Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh.

She announced that the cabinet would convene again to form the regulatory body.

The PA Sangma Medical College, named after former Meghalaya Chief Minister Purno A Sangma, will commence operations shortly after the governor's approval.

Additionally, the cabinet approved rules governing rental houses, government quarters and rental housing schemes for state employees.
