SHILLONG: BJP leader and Meghalaya cabinet minister AL Hek state that several leaders from different political parties are set to join the BJP in the coming days.

“There are many who will join the BJP,” Hek told reporters.

“I will not name anyone right now; it is too early to disclose.”

Hek expressed readiness to welcome former Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma if he decides to join the BJP.

“I have not met nor discussed this with him, but if he wants to join, we welcome him,” Hek stated.

Addressing allegations that BJP’s support has no significant impact on the National People's Party (NPP), Hek asserted, “BJP’s support for NPP will translate into votes as we have worked very hard.”

Hek dismissed the notion of BJP being anti-Christian, calling it a thing of the past.

“Since the inception of BJP, there have been claims that it is anti-Christian and anti-minority, but the party continues to thrive. I am a Christian, I joined the BJP, what’s wrong with that?” he questioned.

Hek also expressed confidence in the BJP’s prospects in the upcoming national elections.

“The feedback is positive for BJP. The party is still strong, and I have no doubt that the Prime Minister will secure a third term,” he added.
