Imphal: Security forces arrested six insurgents associated with two Manipur valley-based underground outfits during separate operations, recovering arms, ammunition, a car, and communication devices over the past 48 hours, officials reported on Saturday.

The arrestees were involved in extortion from schools, brick farms, hospitals, and pharmacies in various areas of Imphal.

Three active cadres of the proscribed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF), the armed wing of the outlawed People's Liberation Army (PLA), were captured from Keishampat Thouda Bhabok Leikai under Imphal police station in Imphal West district.

The arrestees are Maibam Vishal, also known as Thoithoiba, 26, of Yaingangpokpi Awang Leikai, Imphal East district; Soyam Bungo Meitei, 40, of Thamnapokpi Makha Leikai, Imphal East district; and Nongthongbam Sanajaoba Singh, 40, of Pukhao Naharup Makha Leikai, Imphal East district. They were involved in extortion from the public.

Items recovered from them included a .32 pistol loaded with six live rounds, a mobile phone, a Maruti 800 four-wheeler, and documents related to the RPF/PLA Finance Department.

In a separate operation, three volunteers of the banned People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) were arrested. Laishram Kiran Meitei, 36, also known as Kirankumar, Romen, or Angamba, of Moirangkhunou Makha Leikai, Bishnupur district, was arrested at his residence.

Pukhrambam Diamond Singh, 33, of Bishnupur Awang Leikai (Ward No. 1), Bishnupur district, was captured from the Tera Urak crossing checkpoint under Bishnupur police station.

In the final operation, Bidyasagar Ngangom, 19, a resident of Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai, Imphal West district, associated with the outlawed PREPAK, was apprehended from the Kongpal Iranpham Thong area under Porompat police station in Imphal East district.
