Manipur Police arrest KCP (Apunba) member, seize weapons and explosives
Imphal: Security forces on Wednesday arrested an individual allegedly associated with the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (Apunba) and recovered arms, ammunition, and explosives during twin operations in two different districts of Manipur.
Police on Thursday reported that the arrested individual has been identified as Ahongshangbam Naoba Meitei (25), a resident of Kwaksiphai Maning Leikai in Bishnupur district. He is accused of being associated with the KCP (Apunba) group, an underground outfit seeking sovereignty for the state of Manipur.
Based on his on-the-spot interrogation and disclosure, the second phase of the operation was launched at the foothills of Ngariyan Hill near Keirao Wangkhem in Imphal East district. The operation led to the recovery of the following items:
i. One 12-bore single-barrel gun,
ii. One 9mm SMG carbine with magazine,
iii. Two No. 36 hand grenades,
iv. An IED weighing approximately 2 kg, and
v. One tear gas grenade.
Police added that the arrested person and the seized items were later handed over to the relevant police stations for legal proceedings.
