Manipur: Nephew kills retired police officer uncle, then dies by suicide

Imphal: A 25-year-old man allegedly shot his father's younger brother (paternal uncle) to death and then killed himself in Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, about 1 km from the Singjamei police station in Manipur's Imphal West district on Friday noon, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Akoijam Santikumar, a retired Additional Superintendent of Police of the Manipur government.

The incident took place at the residence of the retired officer, located in Mayengbam Leikai near the NRL Oil Pump on National Highway 102, around 12:30 pm on Friday.

The accused, Akoijam Kishan, 25, was found in a pool of blood with a gun apparently used in the crime.

His lifeless body was discovered inside his house, which is adjacent to the residence of the deceased.

The deceased suffered three bullet injuries to his head and chest. Police suspect the incident may have occurred over a family dispute.

The weapon used in the crime has been recovered.

Meanwhile, police said a case has been registered in connection with the incident, and legal proceedings are underway.
