Manipur: Man arrested in Imphal East for illegal possession of pistol and ammunition
Imphal: A team of the Imphal East district police in Manipur arrested a 36-year-old man and seized an illegal firearm, a magazine loaded with live bullets, and incriminating documents from his possession, the police said on Thursday.
The accused has been identified as Nongthombam Anilkumar Singh, also known as Lemba, a resident of Bamon Kampu Mayai Leikai, Imphal East district.
The arrest and seizure occurred during a frisking operation at Kongba Sougrakpam Leirak, under Irilbung Police Station, Imphal East district, on Wednesday night.
During on-the-spot questioning regarding any official documentation for the firearms he possessed, he denied having any, the police reported. Subsequently, he was booked under the Arms Act of 1959, as amended by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The following items were seized from his possession:
i) one 9 mm pistol with one magazine,
ii) ten live rounds of ammunition,
iii) a mobile phone,
iv) an Aadhaar card, and
v) some incriminating documents.
The police added that the arrestee and the seized items were later transferred to the relevant police station following legal procedures for further action.
