Manipur: 60 acres of illicit poppy cultivation destroyed along Indo-Myanmar border
Imphal: A joint team of Assam Rifles, Border Security Force (BSF), and Manipur Police, during an operation targeting narcotics-linked farming in the remote Indo-Myanmar border zone, successfully destroyed 60 acres of illicit poppy cultivation.
According to an official report, the coordinated efforts led to the destruction of the illegal crops at their flowering stage, valued at approximately Rs 30 lakh in the regional clandestine trade in Manipur's Tengnoupal district, bordering Myanmar to the south.
The destruction campaigns were carried out between November 5 and November 21.
The Central Security Forces, in collaboration with the district administration and the Forest Division, Machi block, destroyed approximately 10 acres of poppy plantation in the Machi hill range under the Machi police station in Tengnoupal district on Friday.
Approximately 15 acres of illegal poppy plants, along with a farm hut, a temporary irrigation system, and three chemical spraying pumps, were destroyed on the spot in the Khudei Khullen hill range under the Tengnoupal police station on November 17.
During the drives, law enforcers also destroyed 40 acres of illegal poppy farming in the Loikong hill range under the same police station on November 5.
The police reported that, although no arrests were made, several cases have been registered in connection with the operation.
