Imphal: A joint security team on Thursday arrested four senior cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party–People's War Group (KCP-PWG) for their alleged involvement in recruiting youngsters and other criminal activities.

The joint team, comprising the Manipur Police Anti-Insurgency Squad (AIS) and central security forces, conducted surprise operations based on intelligence about the movements of several anti-social elements, officials said on Friday.

During the first operation on Thursday, an active KCP-PWG cadre, Khulem Robindro Singh (36), a resident of Luker Mayai Leikai under Patsoi Police Station, Imphal West district, was arrested at his residence.

The police accused him of recruiting youths for the party and seized one Aadhaar card from him.

Based on his disclosure, the joint team also launched a second-phase operation and arrested three active KCP-PWG cadres from their respective residences in Imphal East district:

i. Md. Ayub Khan, also known as Thoiba (28), of Hiyangthang Tarahei Konjil, Imphal West district, A/p Hatta near the Public Hospital
ii. Md. Salim (35) of Kairang Mamang Leikai
iii. Md. Ali (46) of Hatta near the Public Hospital

The police further reported that the cadres were involved in extorting the public, oil pumps, private schools, and government colleges in Imphal East.

One KCP-PWG receipt and two mobile phones were also seized from them.
