11 G-5 cadres arrested in anti-insurgency operations in Manipur
Imphal: Security forces have arrested 11 militants belonging to different proscribed outfits for their alleged involvement in extortion in Manipur and have recovered arms, ammunition, and communication devices.
Officials said on Sunday that the arrests and seizures were made in Thoubal, Kakching, Bishnupur, Imphal East, and Imphal West districts during the last 36 hours.
Police accused the arrestees of extorting money by issuing threats and monetary demands, and collecting cash from truck drivers and vehicles plying on the Imphal–Dimapur Road in the name of the Group of 5 (G-5) in the valley areas. The G-5 includes the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party, Kanglei Yawol Kanba Lup, People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Progressive), and the United National Liberation Front (Koireng group).
In the first operation, security forces captured five individuals associated with the Kangleipak Communist Party.
Officials identified them as Sinam Deven Singh (25), Konsam Anao Singh (26), Khoirom Langamba Meitei (27), Keisham Thamba Singh alias Pritam (32), and Wangkhem Chinglen Singh (29).
Security forces apprehended two active cadres of the United National Liberation Front (Koireng group) — Hijam Marjit Singh alias Dhamen (51) and Soibam Basanta Singh alias Samthaba (37) — in Imphal West and Thoubal districts.
Reports stated that security personnel also arrested two volunteers of the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak — Thokchom Sushilkumar alias Amo (34) and Irom Boyai Singh alias Yaitanba (24) — in Bishnupur district.
Security forces also arrested Usham Tomba Singh alias Heibra (24), an activist of the Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup, from his hideout in Thoubal district.
The team arrested a cadre of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front — the political wing of the banned People's Liberation Army — from Thoubal district in the last operation.
Security forces identified him as Thokchom Angousana Singh alias Santosh (52).
Reports added that authorities linked the arrests to threats issued to participants of the Sumang Leela Associations and other performers at the recently concluded Manipur Sangai Festival 2025.
