Imphal: A joint team from central and Manipur forces has busted an inter-state drug smuggling network with the arrest of two alleged smugglers from Assam and the seizure of contraband drugs worth over Rs 2 crore in the international clandestine trade.

According to an official report issued on Sunday, a joint team of Manipur Police, CRPF, and Assam Rifles arrested Rajib Hussain Mazumder from Ranighat, Krishnapur, and Sahar Alom Mazumder from Dubang, both in Assam's Silchar.

The arrests were made on Saturday at Leingangpokpi village, about 15 kilometers from the Jiribam district headquarters along NH-37, after the suspects were found carrying contraband drugs in a vehicle.

From their possession, authorities seized 50,000 tablets engraved with WY/R, weighing approximately 5.184 kg including sachets and polythene bags.

The Toyota Fortuner used to transport the drugs, three mobile phones, and two Aadhar cards were also confiscated.

All items were seized following standard procedures, and the arrestees were handed over to the relevant police station.

The police added that a case has been registered against the suspects under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Act 2023 for further investigation.
