Imphal: A joint operation by central and state security forces in Manipur's Kangpokpi district led to the seizure of a significant cache of weapons and explosives on Monday.

Intelligence-led information prompted the operation, which involved personnel from the Indian Army, paramilitary forces, and Manipur Police.

The team targeted an abandoned camp believed to be used by anti-social elements in the Aigejang area, said a police official.

The operation, which lasted approximately 1.5 hours, resulted in the recovery of the weapons and explosives that include One 303 Sniper Rifle, One 9mm submachine gun (SMG) with magazine, One 9mm Pistol, One single-barrel breech loader (SBBL) gun, two Picket Grenades, two Smoke Grenades, two 36 hand grenades, two 51mm Mortar HE (High Explosive) rounds and five live rounds.

Anti-social elements fled the scene as the security forces approached the camp. The seized items were handed over to the relevant police station for further investigation and legal action.
