Manipur violence: Huge cache of arms, ammunition & explosives recovered

IMPHAL: Security forces in Manipur have recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives during search operations.

The arms, ammunition and explosives were recovered and seized during a joint operation by the Indian Army and Manipur police.

The war-like stores were recovered from Kangpokpi and Bishnupur districts in Manipur.

The search operations were launched based on specific inputs about the presence of a huge cache of arms and explosives, an official statement said on Thursday (February 15).

Security personnel recovered one country-made mortar, one country-made carbine machine gun, two country-made Pompi guns, one grenade and a large quantity of ammunition during search operations at Khoken village in Kangpokpi district of Manipur.

In a follow-up operation along the foothills of Dampi ridge at Lailampat  area in Bishnupur district of Manipur, a combined team of Indian Army, BSF and Manipur police recovered two six-inch country-made mortars with eleven rounds, one 7.62mm SLR rifle, one 9mm pistol, two 12 bore single-barrel gun, ammunition, four grenades and other war like stores.

The recovered items have been handed over to the Manipur police.
