Guwahati: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday said the state police chief has been asked to secure the release of the two youths who were allegedly abducted by militants in Kangpokpi district on September 27, 2024.

The Chief Minister said the government is doing its duties to secure the release of the youths.

“It is a very unfortunate incident. One among the three youths was released but two others are still held captive by the militants. The Central and the state government are in contact to ensure the safe release of the youths. We are engaging in talks now,” he said.

CM Singh said that DGP Rajiv Singh himself has gone to have talks with the abductors and there will be a positive outcome.

“The DGP himself has gone to the place to have talks. We believe that there will be a positive outcome,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that though the abductors have made some demands but the government is trying the youths are released unconditionally.

“They have made some demands but the government is trying to release the two youths unconditionally,” he added.

The trio, all hailing from Thoubal district in Manipur, had gone to the New Keithelmanbi area in Imphal West district for the SSC GD recruitment test for central forces.

However, the youths lost their way and reached Kangpokpi from where they were allegedly abducted by armed men.

One of the three youths, N. Johnson Singh, was rescued by the Indian Army the same day.

Meanwhile, the security forces are leaving no stone unturned to trace the youths.
