Manipur: JCO of Indian Army injured in gun-firing in Imphal East

Imphal: A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army who was on duty suffered injuries in firing at an area in Imphal East district on Tuesday, officials said on Wednesday.

A firing by armed miscreants commenced in the general area of Khamanlok ridge, along Saibol Heights, Gwaltabi, and Semol in Imphal East district at around 11:30 am on Tuesday.

Upon receipt of the information, Security Forces moved in a coordinated manner to control the situation.

At approximately 12.50 pm, a Junior Commissioned Officer of the Indian Army who was part of the column sustained a gunshot wound in his right calf.

The JCO has been evacuated by helicopter to Military Hospital in Leimakhong Military Station and his condition is reported as stable.

Security forces are currently dominating the area to control the situation, the police added.

Around 80,000 security forces are being deployed in strife-torn Manipur state to maintain law and order situation.
