Imphal: A school in Manipur's Jiribam district was set ablaze by unidentified miscreants in the early hours of Friday, police said.

The incident occurred at the Blooming Flower Children Foundation School in Kalinagar part 2.

According to locals, the fire caused significant damage to the school building, including the destruction of classrooms, furniture, and valuable records.

The exact value of the losses is still being assessed.

A joint team of firefighters, police, and paramilitary forces responded to the emergency and managed to extinguish the flames. However, the damage was extensive.

The motive behind the arson remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing.

Police are examining the school's history, noting that a Hmar tribal community member once operated it, and is now under the administration of a Meitei person.
