Manipur CM plans to destroy illegal poppy plantations by Feb-end

All poppy plantations in the state would be destroyed by the end of February, says Manipur Chief Minister.

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has announced that the Government’s War on Drugs Campaign would be intensified and a combined team would destroy the poppy plantations by the end of February 2024.

In a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, the Chief Minister said that the government has not stopped its work of destroying poppy plantations, since the start of the campaign.

On the Government’s War on Drugs Campaign, areas of poppy plantations had decreased a lot.

Identification of areas with poppy cultivation had been done through satellite mapping, he said, adding that combined teams of Narcotics and Affairs of Border, Narcotics Control Bureau, State forces, and Forest Department would destroy the poppy plantations by the end of this month.

Meanwhile, a combined team of Narcotics & Affairs of Border (NAB), 6 Manipur Rifles, Forest Department, and Ukhrul district police destroyed around 20 acres of poppy plantation along the Muilam & Shongphel hill range under Litan police station in Ukhrul district on Thursday.
