Manipur: Bike-borne youth killed, another injured in head-on collision

Imphal: A youth was killed and another one injured when a high-speed Tata truck collided head-on with a motorcycle at Kakching Lamkhai on National Highway 102 under Kakching police station in Manipur on Thursday.

According to police the Tata truck, traveling from Sora, collided with the bike coming from the opposite direction.

"Preliminary investigations indicate that the collision occurred from the driver’s side of both vehicles," stated the police. Upon notification, a crowd gathered at the scene, and law enforcement was alerted.

Md Sarif, aged 20, hailing from Sora village under the Kakching police station, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while his younger brother, Md Samir, aged 17, sustained severe injuries.

The driver of the Tata truck, identified as JB Beshra, aged 25, from Lamkang village in Manipur's Chandel district, has been apprehended, confirmed the police.

The injured youth was promptly transported to Jivan Hospital in Kakching and later referred to RIMS Hospital in Imphal.

The body of Md Sarif currently rests at the mortuary of JNIMS for post-mortem examination. Police have registered a case and are conducting further inquiries.
