Manipur: 3 women die of hypertension in bomb attacks in Kakching

IMPHAL: At least three elderly women died of suspected hypertension and a village volunteer was injured when miscreants allegedly attacked with bombs and gunfire at Sugnu village in Manipur's Kakching district on Wednesday, officials said on Thursday.

Khaidem Achoubi (74), Laishram Dashu-mati Devi (60), and Thongam Chaoba Devi (80) all from Sugnu village in the southern part of the state died of high blood pressure as the miscreants launched uninterrupted attacks at Sugnu from early Wednesday morning.

A village volunteer also suffered a bullet injury on his chest and has been evacuated to a hospital in Imphal after first aid at Jivan Hospital, Kakching district.

The heavily armed miscreants launched an attack from Khongnang Pheisabi's side in Chandel district towards the Manipur Rifles post in the Sugnu area.

It was followed by another attack from Lailoiphai and Dongyang in Churachandpur district which are close to Sugnu and lie just beyond the Manipur River.

Officials added that a gunfight occurred after the State security forces and village volunteers retaliated.

An investigation is being carried out.
