Assam: Polling official held for alleged intoxication
Guwahati: A Lok Sabha election presiding officer in Assam's Udalguri district has been held for alleged violation of rules on election duty.
With the Darrang-Udalguri constituency going to polls on Friday, such kind of irresponsible behaviour on the part of a polling officer has sparked outrage.
According to reports, the officer was found drunk on duty which simultaneously led to his arrest.
The officer in question has been identified as Arun Daimary, a teacher at the Udalguri Girls High School.
The five constituencies in Assam that go to polls in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections on Friday (April 26) are Nagaon, Karimganj, Silchar, Diphu and Darrang-Udalguri.
As many as 61 candidates are competing in the second phase of voting for Lok Sabha elections across the five constituencies in Assam.
While the Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency has the highest number of candidates (24), Diphu has the lowest number of candidates (5).
