Assam: Hills around GMCH in Guwahati marked 'leopard territory'

Guwahati: The forest department in Guwahati, Assam have designated the hills surrounding the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) as a "leopard-bearing area" due to frequent leopard sightings.

The move by the forest department includes marking the connecting road between Kahilipara and GMCH, along with the surrounding hilly areas, as potential leopard habitat.

Warning signs have also been installed to alert residents of the potential danger.

There have been repeated instances of leopard sightings in the area.

It may be mentioned most of the hills in and around Guwahati have always been known for wildlife.

Leopards are known to live among people in the hilly areas of Guwahati but with the growing human population in Guwahati, the leopard population seemed to be declining.
