Guwahati: The Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam will be closing its doors to jeep and elephant safaris for this tourist season.

The closure will go into effect on May 15, 2024, and remain in place for the 2024-2025 tourist season until further notice.

The announcement was made by the Divisional Forest Officer of the Mangaldai Wildlife Division. Park authorities routinely close the park during the monsoon season to protect the wildlife and their habitat. The monsoons can bring heavy rains and flooding, making it unsafe for both visitors and animals.

The Orang National Park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including the Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros, Asian Elephants, and tigers. Jeep and elephant safaris are popular activities for visitors, offering a unique opportunity to see these animals up close in their natural habitat.

Tourists can expect the park to reopen for safaris sometime in October 2024, subject to official announcements.
