Agartala: A night super bus traveling from Agartala to Guwahati overturned near Ditokcherra in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, around 12:30 AM on Thursday, leaving one person dead and several injured.

The bus, operated by Seema Travels with service number AS01NC0243, is suspected to have been speeding and the driver may have been intoxicated, according to police reports. The driver is currently absconding and a further investigation is underway.

Police officers from Harangajao and Ditokcherra along with Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the scene to rescue the passengers. One male passenger, Dibraj Deb Barma, 33, from Maharani Kamalpur village in Tripura's Dhalai district, died on the way to the hospital.

Six passengers sustained serious injuries and were referred to Silchar Medical College after receiving initial treatment at Harangajao. Around 25 others with minor injuries are being treated at the Harangajao Public Health Center.

Authorities arranged a special bus from Harangajao to transport those with minor injuries to Silchar.
