Three from Assam arrested in Tripura with Yaba tablets worth Rs 5 crore

Agartala: The Tripura Police detained three individuals from Assam on Sunday afternoon from Bagbasa in the North District for the alleged possession of Yaba tablets having an estimated value of Rs 5 crores.

The location of the arrest is situated along the interstate boundary shared by Tripura, Assam, and Mizoram. 

Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty of North Tripura District stated that the arrests were made based on confidential information received by the police in Bagbasa.

Acting on the tip-off, the police, intercepted an "unnumbered" vehicle coming from Assam side.

"The three individuals in the vehicle, identified as Abdul Mata, Borhan Uddin, and Janab Ali, all residents of Karimganj District in Assam, were taken into custody. Subsequent police questioning revealed their admission to drug possession", the SP said.

A total of 55 thousand Yaba tablets with a grey market value of approximately Rs 5 crore, were seized from the individuals, as informed by the Superintendent of Police.
