Assam: Woman killed in hit-and-run by vehicle used for "cattle smuggling" in Mankachar

Guwahati: A woman died after being run over by a pickup truck in South Salmara Mankachar, Assam on Saturday.

The incident took place in the Fekamari area of the district.

The deceased was identified as Shefali Begum.

She was allegedly hit by a vehicle used for "smuggling cattle.

Begum was reportedly walking when the vehicle hit her.

The force of the impact caused the vehicle to veer off the road.

The situation escalated as the driver and handyman fled the scene after the accident.

One of the five cattle being transported in the vehicle also died in the accident, while the remaining four sustained injuries.

The vehicle along with the animals were immediately seized.
