Assam: Weather expected to worsen, IMD issues alert

Guwahati: Assam's weather is expected to worsen significantly, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue Orange and Yellow Alerts for several districts.

This comes as Nagaon and Cachar districts are already grappling with severe floods.

A Yellow Alert has been issued for South Salmara, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Baksa, Tamulpur, Bajali, Goalpara, Kamrup (Rural), Kamrup (Metro), Sonitpur, Biswanath, Karbi Anglong, Hailakandi, Karimganj, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Tinsukia districts on June 7.

An Orange Alert, indicating a higher level of severity, has been issued for Barpeta, Dima Hasao, Cachar, Golaghat, and Dibrugarh districts, also on June 7.

This alert is extended to Chirang, Baksa, Goalpara, Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Cachar, Jorhat, Sivasagar, and Charaideo districts on June 8th.

Residents in the affected areas are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions as the state braces for potentially harsh weather conditions.
