Shillong: The Assam and Meghalaya governments, who had shown commitment to resolving their interstate border dispute in the first phase, seem to be dragging their feet on the second phase.

Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh who Chairman of the West Khasi Hills Regional Border Committee, claimed that efforts to contact Assam counterparts have been met with radio silence.

Lyngdoh said that the final report hinges on the regional committee's visit to the affected areas, initially planned for winter 2024.

He said, however, Assam's response has been lukewarm, leaving the process in limbo.

Despite sharing documents and receiving a positive response from Assam, the regional committee's visit to the disputed areas remains a crucial hurdle, he claimed.

The second phase of boundary talks, aimed at resolving six remaining disputed areas, has lost momentum since the key leaders' meeting in August 2022.
