Assam: Golden Langur killed by speeding vehicle in Kokrajhar

Guwahati: A critically endangered Golden Langur was reported killed by a speeding vehicle near Amguri, located southeast of Kokrajhar in Assam.

The langur, which had ventured out of its habitat in the Chakrashila reserve forest was struck while crossing the road.

Locals claimed that frequent accidents involving Golden Langurs take place in the area.

Some blamed speeding drivers while some blamed a lack of adequate protective measures by the forest department.

The Chakrachila Wildlife Sanctuary is known for its Golden Langur population, but it has also seen a troubling pattern of these fatal accidents.

The locals have called for stricter enforcement of speed limits within the sanctuary and for the forest department to implement more effective solutions to prevent these tragedies.
