HAFLONG: Dima Hasao district in Assam is on high alert following heavy rainfall since the night of Wednesday (May 01).

In response to a warning issued by the regional meteorological centre (RMC) in Guwahati, the Dima Hasao district disaster management authority (DDMA) has issued an advisory urging people not to venture out from today until May 04, or until the rain subsides and the situation returns to normal.

All educational institutions in the district have been directed to remain closed until May 04 due to the prevailing weather conditions.

Additionally, the Jatinga-Harangajao stretch of national highway-27 has been completely closed for all vehicles until 8 AM of Friday (May 03) due to the heavy rainfall.

"The restrictions have been continued till tomorrow 8 AM due to ongoing repairs on the road," the police in Dima Hasao district of Assam informed while providing update about the repair works on Jatinga-Harangajao stretch of national highway-27.

Persistent landslides in the Jatinga-Lampur and New Harangajao railway stations of Dima Hasao district have severely disrupted vital services and transportation.

Heavy rains, particularly in the Maibang area, have forced the closure of the train route, impacting connectivity with Haflong in Assam.

These continuous landslides have resulted in the suspension of the Lumding-Silchar train service.

To facilitate communication and assistance during this period, the Dima Hasao DDMA in Assam has also introduced a toll-free number, 03673-1077, for reporting any rain-related incidents or emergencies.
