Assam: Woman killed, child injured during elephant attack in Goalpara

Guwahati: Another life was lost during a man-elephant conflict in Goaplara, Assam on Friday evening.

A woman lost her life in the Gopalpur Tilapara of Goalpara district while a child was severely injured after being attacked by an elephant.

The deceased has been identified as Mamtaz Begum.

A herd of wild elephants had come out of the forest in search of food and reached the village.

However, while the locals attempted to chase the herd away, some of the jumbos attacked and as a result, Mamtaz lost her life, a local said.

The child on the other hand is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital in Goalpara.

Forest department officials were informed late at night and attempts to chase the herd back to the forest area are being undertaken.
