Assam: Government extends financial aid to Ex-ULFA cadres, family members 

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday (March 2) distributed fixed deposit certificates of Rs 4 lakh each to 852 former United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) cadres in a ceremony held at Guwahati's Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra. 

The fixed deposit certificate was given as a financial grant under the Union government’s Surrender-cum-Rehabilitation policy.

The state government additionally extended Rs 3 lakh each to the former ULFA cadres as a special package.

The Assam government also extended financial aid of Rs 3 lakh each to 45 victims injured during counter-insurgency operations, Rs 5 lakh each to eight oppressed individuals and Rs 10 lakh each to the next of kin of the 31 missing cadres of the ULFA. 

Forty-four years after being formed, the ULFA disbanded itself on 23 January 2024 at the organisation’s final general meeting held at Sipajhar in Assam’s Darrang district.

The meeting was held 25 days after the organisation signed a tripartite Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) in New Delhi on December 29, 2023.
