Assam: Drowning incident claim lives of couple in Cachar

Guwahati: A husband-wife duo died after drowning in a river in Cachar, Assam.

The drowning incident occurred in the Chiri River at Kamranga in Lakhipur, Cachar district.

The deceased were identified as Jaggu Kal and his wife Anjana Kal, both labourers.

They drowned while bathing in the river on Saturday.

According to reports, Anjana Kal suddenly submerged underwater while bathing, and her husband Jaggu Kal attempted to rescue her.

However, he also succumbed to the strong currents, leading to a tragic end for the couple.

A joint search operation was launched by police and SDRF forces, but initial attempts to locate the bodies were unsuccessful.

On Monday evening, some locals discovered the bodies near Lakhipur Kangali Basti, several kilometres from the original location.

The police were promptly notified, and the bodies were transported to Silchar Medical College for post-mortem examination.
