Guwahati: Jitendra Singh, Congress general secretary who looks after the party's affairs in Assam on Sunday said that they may soon pursue legal actions seeking disqualification of MLAs engaged in alleged anti-party activities.

While making the statement, the senior Congress leader also criticised the speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Biswajit Daimary accusing him of neglecting the party's petitions urging the cancellation of these members' House memberships.

Singh further lamented the lack of action from the Speaker, attributing it to what he described as the BJP government's failure to adhere to established procedures.

He also added that Congress would soon approach the high court and even the Supreme Court if necessary to secure the disqualification of these legislators.

He added that many petitions were submitted to the speaker regarding the disqualification of these MLAs for their alleged anti-party activities but there were no actions.

These acts include providing support to the government, opposing party nominees in elections, and campaigning against party candidates.

Speaking on the same lines, AICC general secretary Ajoy Kumar alleged that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma desires to rejoin the Congress.

Making the statement, he opposed Sarma's "potential return", citing the party's stance against accepting politicians who switch sides.
