Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during an election meeting in Bihar's Buxar claimed that Lalu Prasad Yadav fielded former IPS officer Anand Mishra to cut votes of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate.

Speaking at the meeting, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Anand Mishra came to my house and office in Guwahati and requested me to give him VRS (voluntary retirement). He said that he wanted to serve the BJP while seeking retirement."

Sarma added, "He (Anand Mishra) claimed that he would serve the party even if he did not get the contest ticket."

"However, after coming here he started campaigning and asking for votes on Bullet bike", he claimed.

The Assam Chief Minister further claimed that Anand Mishra was fielded by "Lalu to cute votes of Mithilesh Tiwari".

Sarma also questioned how Anand Mishra got the money to contest the elections adding that his phones need to be checked to ascertain how many times he speaks to Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejeshwi Yadav.

"He lied to me saying that he would serve the BJP and had I known the fact, I would not have let him come here", Himanta Biswa Sarma added.

It may be mentioned that Anand Mishra was one of the most popular police officers in Assam.

His last posting in the state was as the Superintendent of Police in the Lakhimpur district.

However, earlier this year he resigned from service stating that he would pursue social service.
