North Lakhimpur: The Assam Congress on Monday lodged an FIR against three BJP leaders in North Lakhimpur, accusing them of making inflammatory remarks against Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

The complaint was filed by a large contingent from the Lakhimpur District Congress Committee, led by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Bora.

The FIR names BJP leaders Tarvinder Singh, Ravneet Singh Bittu (a minister), Raghuraj Singh, and Sanjay Gaikwad, a Shiv Sena MLA from Maharashtra, as the accused.

Ahead of filing the FIR, the Congress team, led by APCC President Bhupen Bora, held a protest march in North Lakhimpur, which culminated at the North Lakhimpur Sadar Police Station.

Speaking to the media, Bhupen Bora criticized the BJP for fostering an atmosphere of instability in the country by making threats against Rahul Gandhi.

He expressed astonishment at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the calls by BJP and Shiv Sena leaders to cut off Rahul Gandhi's tongue.

Bora challenged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to show the same courage in arresting these BJP leaders as he did in the case of Gujarat Congress leader Jignesh Mevani.

Other prominent Congress leaders in attendance included District President Gagan Bora, Dr. Joy Prakash Das, Uday Shankar Hazarika, Gangajyoti Tayegam, Opel Hazarika, Prashanta Gogoi, Ratul Bora, and Narayan Saikia, among others.
