Dibrugarh: The usually pleasant town of Dibrugarh in eastern Assam is currently experiencing an unprecedented heatwave, with temperatures soaring to a record 39.5°C on Monday.

This scorching heat has led to widespread discomfort and health concerns among residents.

To protect students from the extreme weather, the Dibrugarh district administration has modified school timings. Many residents have been seen using umbrellas and drinking juices to combat the intense heat.

The sudden change in Dibrugarh's climate has been attributed to factors such as global warming and deforestation.

"We have never witnessed such extreme weather in Dibrugarh before," said Ankit Singh, a local resident.

"The pleasant climate we're accustomed to has been replaced by heatwaves, and the temperature has reached as high as 38°C," he said.

Another resident, Tapash Das, expressed frustration with the frequent power cuts, which have exacerbated the difficulties caused by the heatwave. "

The power department has failed to provide adequate electricity during peak hours, making our situation even worse," Das said.

The district administration has urged residents to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the heat, such as staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight, and checking on elderly and vulnerable individuals.

As the heatwave continues, there is growing concern about its potential impact on public health and infrastructure.
