Assam boxers show promising performance at Eastern Open Talent Hunt
Guwahati: After the success of Assam’s junior boxers at the REC Eastern Open Talent Hunt Programme, the Youth and Elite (men and women) boxers from the state displayed their prowess inside the ring at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan (DTRP) indoor stadium in Guwahati.
The semifinal bouts in the open championships, where boxers from a total of 28 states participated, were played on Sunday (March 17). The finals will be held on Monday (March 18). The last round of quarterfinal bouts took place on Saturday (March 16) evening.
Amidst the fervour of the competition, Assam's boxing contingent showcased their mettle, dominating several weight categories, and solidifying their presence in the penultimate stage of the tournament.
In the Elite Men's event, Gourav Muzumdar of Assam demonstrated his finesse by outclassing Siddhart Malik of Haryana in the 48-51kg weight category. Meanwhile, Abhinab Saikia of Assam showcased his prowess as he triumphed over Aman Indora of Haryana in the 63.5-67kg category.

The Elite Women's event saw a spectacular performance by Manju Basumatary, representing Assam, as she emerged victorious against her fellow state mate Aroti in the 54-57kg weight category.
Among the Youth Girl's event, Assam's Ela Jyoti Pegu displayed her skill by defeating Ayekpam Ajita Chanu of Manipur in the 46-48kg category, while Prantika Gogoi triumphed over Horipriya Patgiri, both from Assam, in the same weight category.
Additionally, Rimpi Pegu of Assam secured her semifinal spot beating Nikuoni Boro, also from Assam, in the 48-50kg category.

In the Youth Boy's event, Ohidur Rahman of Assam showcased his talent by besting Sagar from Haryana in the 48-51kg weight category. On the other hand, Junaid Anand displayed his prowess as he overcame Indra Veer of Madhya Pradesh in the 60-63.5kg category.
Meanwhile, Nirban Jyoti Gogoi sealed his semifinal berth defeating Ganga Rabha, both representing Assam, in the 75-80kg weight category.
More than 1, 000 boxers from across the country are participating in the open championships organised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) in collaboration with REC Limited, a Maharatna company under the Union Ministry of Power.
The tournament serves as a platform for participants to exhibit their prowess and potentially earn invitations to join the trials for inclusion in BFI's national camps.
