Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has firmly denied reports suggesting he has tendered his resignation, calling such claims "false and baseless."

Speaking to a local TV channel on Friday, Singh said there is no question of stepping down at this critical juncture. He reiterated his commitment to restoring peace and normalcy in the strife-torn state.

The Chief Minister, who has been in close communication with central leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, was responding to a report that claimed he had proposed to resign.

Notably, 19 BJP MLAs from the ruling BJP-led government in Manipur have submitted a letter to the Prime Minister, calling for Singh's removal as Chief Minister.

The TV channel that aired the initial report suggested these actions were taken after discussions with the Prime Minister.

It was also reported that PM Modi had positively considered the Chief Minister's resignation and that Biren Singh had decided to step down due to mounting pressure from his party colleagues.

The report further claimed that on October 15, after a meeting with Manipur Speaker Th Satyabrata, the 19 dissenting MLAs formally requested the Prime Minister to remove Singh from his post.

They submitted a memorandum demanding his ouster, sparking widespread speculation about his possible resignation following consultations with the Prime Minister.

However, Singh has categorically dismissed these claims, affirming that he remains focused on his duties as Chief Minister.
