Pathsala: A 26-year-old man lost his life while trying to save a friend from drowning in the Palla River in lower Assam's Baska district.

The boy has been identified as Manzil Khan, son of Jamaluddin of Moirajhar village under Govardhana police station area of Salbari sub-division.

Reports indicate that Manzil Khan, along with seven friends, went for a swim in the river on Saturday evening.

When one of his friends began drowning, Manzil heroically jumped in to attempt a rescue. However, Manzil himself was not a swimmer and went missing in the river.

Local police and SDRF personnel arrived at the scene to search for Manzil, but due to darkness, the rescue operation was suspended on Saturday. The search resumed this morning, and the SDRF team was able to recover Manzil's body.

The news of Manzil's death has devastated his family members.
