Anand Mahindra feels Neeraj Chopra won ‘a gold medal’
Guwahati : Business tycoon Anand Mahindra feels that Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra won a ‘gold medal’ in Paris Olympics 2024.
Chopra had to settle for the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
With a throw of 89.45 metres, Chopra finished behind Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who won the gold medal with an Olympic record-shattering 92.97m attempt.
Nadeem’s outstanding performance on Thursday also made him won the first individual gold medal for Pakistan.
Anand Mahindra, however, feels that Neeraj won a ‘gold medal’ as he showed consistency and also didn’t fumbled, get fouled out or flustered but quietly made the best throw of the season.
By winning back to back medals for India, Chopra joins the elite club of Sushil Kumar, PV Sindhu and Manu Bhaker altogether to win two individual medals for India at the Olympics since independence.
Mahindra, also confessed in a post on X, that he was devastated when Chopra didn’t win his second Olympic gold medal.
He also lauded Nadeem for his record-breaking throw. AND his sportsmanship & camaraderie with Neeraj.
“I confess. I was devastated last night when @Neeraj_chopra1 didn’t win his second Olympic gold medal,” he wrote.
“But, this morning, I first want to congratulate Arshad Nadeem for his record-breaking throw. AND his sportsmanship & camaraderie with Neeraj.
“Then I want to tell Neeraj that he wins a GOLD medal for consistency. He didn’t fumble, get fouled out or get flustered. He quietly made his best throw of the season. And brought home a back to back medal and India’s first Silver.
“Reliable, predictable & consistent performance is the hallmark of a great sportsperson. Neeraj you are a truly great athlete and a good human being. You have made us all proud,” he added.
Following his performance, Chopra also became the second male athlete post-independence to win two Olympic medals in an individual event.
