Iran's Revolutionary Guards claim attack on Israel PM Netanyahu's office
Guwahati: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) on Monday claimed it had targeted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office in Tel Aviv, along with key security and military installations in Haifa and east Jerusalem, as hostilities between Iran, Israel and the United States intensified.
In a statement carried by the Fars news agency, the IRGC said it had struck “the office of the criminal prime minister of the Zionist regime” and the headquarters of Israel’s air force commander, using Kheibar missiles.
The announcement came as fresh explosions were reported over Jerusalem. According to AFP journalists, blasts were heard across the city after the Israeli military confirmed it had detected a new wave of missiles launched from Iran.
“A short while ago, the IDF identified missiles launched from Iran toward the territory of the State of Israel. Defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat,” the Israeli military said in a statement.
The conflict, triggered by the US-Israeli strikes that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday, has rapidly escalated into a broader regional confrontation.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen condemned what she described as “reckless and indiscriminate attacks by Iran and its proxies against sovereign territories across the region,” after strikes reportedly hit a British air base in Cyprus and a Saudi oil facility.
“We must work hard to de-escalate and stop the conflict spreading,” she told reporters in Brussels, warning that “the stability of the region is of the utmost importance.”
The Iranian Red Crescent Society said at least 555 people have been killed in Iran since the US-Israeli campaign began.
Meanwhile, explosions were reported across multiple Gulf cities, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha and Manama, as Iran expanded its retaliation against US military installations and allied infrastructure in the region.
In Kuwait, black smoke was seen rising near the US embassy compound, although the embassy did not confirm it had been directly hit. It issued a security alert advising citizens to stay away.
“There is a continuing threat of missile and UAV (drone) attacks over Kuwait. Do not come to the embassy,” the statement said, adding that US embassy personnel were sheltering in place.
Iranian strikes were also reported to have targeted a US base and a power station in Kuwait in what observers described as the most dramatic escalation for the Gulf state in decades.
According to regional authorities, at least five people have been killed in Gulf countries so far, including one fatality in Kuwait.
With Israel and the United States continuing strikes inside Iran and Tehran pressing ahead with missile and drone attacks, the conflict that began with Khamenei’s killing has engulfed much of the Middle East, raising fears of a prolonged regional war.
