India, Vietnam to deepen cooperation in critical and emerging technologies
Hanoi: India and Vietnam have reaffirmed plans to strengthen cooperation in critical and emerging technologies as New Delhi’s Ambassador-designate to Vietnam, Tshering Wangchuk Sherpa, met senior Vietnamese leaders in Hanoi on Tuesday.
Sherpa, a 2002-batch Indian Foreign Service officer and former Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, called on Politburo member and President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMNAP), Nguyen Xuan Thang, and held discussions with senior officials of the academy.
The Embassy of India in Hanoi said in a post on X that both sides committed to “enhancing cooperation and intensifying collaboration” across new and strategic technology domains.
Last week, the Indian Embassy and the Indian community in Hanoi showcased Indian cuisine, handicrafts and henna art at the International Culinary Cultural Festival, where community members also performed classical dance, highlighting the strong people-to-people ties between the two nations.
On November 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, reaffirming their commitment to a “stronger, future-oriented friendship.”
With Buddhism serving as a cultural and spiritual link between the two countries, Sherpa also met Thich Duc Thien, Vice President and Secretary General of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, at Quan Su Pagoda last week, expressing India’s commitment to deepening this shared bond.
